The Todds continue to support the university in myriad ways, including a recent gift to permanently endow the Patricia Brantley Todd Endowed Fund for Excellence, which supports UK Cooperative Extension Service programs and a biannual award for exemplary service by faculty and staff.

Registration is open for E-Day 2026

The Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering will host E-Day on Saturday, Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Over 100 exhibitors will set up interactive displays, demonstrations and exhibits, geared toward a K-12 audience.

NSF CAREER Award fuels UK researcher’s breakthroughs in robotics

Biyun Xie, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering, has received a prestigious U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award to advance research in human-robot shared control for robotic telemanipulation.

UK Engineering - Paducah Campus recognizes its largest first-year class

This fall semester, the University of Kentucky Pigman College of Engineering - Paducah Campus welcomed 54 incoming first-year students — the largest first-year class  in program history. The Paducah Campus, which offers bachelor’s degrees in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and computer engineering technology, was established 27 years ago to develop and retain engineering talent in the Western Kentucky region.

Bryson wins Kentucky ASCE Distinguished Engineering Educator Award

L. Sebastian Bryson, Ph.D., Hardin-Drnevich-Huang Professor and chair of the Department of Civil Engineering in the University of Kentucky Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering, was the recipient of the 2025 Distinguished Engineering Educator Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Kentucky Section. The award was presented on Sept. 12 at the ASCE Kentucky Section Annual Meeting in Lexington.

SPARK and PEIK researchers receive best poster award at IEEE ITEC 2025 for collaborative paper with PPL Corporation

SPARK Lab researchers within the Power and Energy Institute of Kentucky (PEIK) and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Kentucky Pigman College of Engineering received the best poster award for a paper at the 2025 Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) International Transportation Electrification Conference & Expo (ITEC) in Anaheim, California.

Lane awarded Charles F. Knapp Faculty Fellowship in Biomedical Engineering

Brooks A. Lane, assistant professor in the F. Joseph Halcomb III, M.D. Department of Biomedical Engineering, has been awarded the Charles F. Knapp Faculty Fellowship in Biomedical Engineering. Lane’s research focuses on soft tissue mechanics and mechanobiology in cardiovascular disease on-set, progression, and therapeutic or surgical interventions. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of South Carolina in 2019, focusing on diverse murine aortopathies and experimental methods for biomechanical characterization. 

Biomedical bachelor's degree accredited by ABET

The University of Kentucky Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering’s bachelor’s degree program in biomedical engineering has been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), a nonprofit, ISO 9001-certified quality assurance organization. Through the accreditation of academic programs, recognition of credentials and assessment of student learning, ABET supports excellence in education worldwide.
