Limestone or S. Upper. Use the pedestrian walkway on the third floor to enter campus. At the foot of the walkway turn left and proceed across the foot bridge into the 2nd floor of the Student Center. Kentucky has adopted the 2009 IECC (and the alternative compliance path ASHRAE 90.1-2007) in order to improve the energy efficiency of new commercial buildings. Ohio, Indiana, Illinois have the same requirements and West Virginia will soon by adopting ASHRAE 90.1-2007 effective July 2013.
To help building professionals and suppliers understand and comply with the 2009 IECC and ASHRAE 90.1-2007 requirements and related code inspections, the University of Kentucky and AD Hall and Associates have created this Â workshop. It is designed any professional who works with with commercial buildings in Kentucky. For example:
- professional engineers
- code officials
- equipment manufactures and representatives
This workshop is similar to the nine workshops taught last year to over 400 building designers and code officials.
Note: This state energy code is adopted without exception in all Kentucky jurisdictions.
Art Hallstrom, P.E. is president of AD Hall and Associates, Lexington, Ky. Art is an ASHRAE Fellow, AEE member andÂ active inÂ commercialÂ building energy standards and certification. He has a broad range of experience in building load design and related energy use and is an ASHRAE certified energy modeler (BEMP). Formerly the Trane Airside Applications engineering manager, he has written many HVAC related application manuals and participated in the low energy ASHRAE HQ renovation. He is currently a member of the ASHRAE Society Technology Council and chair of the ASHRAEwiki project.
Kenneth C. Peet
Kenneth C. Peet, P.E., C.E.M., LEED AP, is an ssociate of, AD Hall and Associates, Louisville, Ky. Ken is the former owner of LSE Engineering, Inc. and has designed many types of commercial and institutional buildings in Kentucky. His practical knowledge of technical issues, energy standards and energy rating programs like Energy Star and ASHRAE bEQ will help attendees understanding how to evaluate commercial building energy use – both before and after construction. He is an ASHRAE Member and Chair of ASHRAE TC 7.9.
Don Colliver, Ph.D., P.E. is a professor of Biosystems Engineering and associate director of the Power and Energy Institute of KentuckyÂ at the University of Kentucky where he has been involved in developing energy related teaching, research and outreach activities for over 30 years. He was the ASHRAE Society president in 2002-2003 and previously served as chairman of ASHRAEâ€™s Technology Council and also the ASHRAE Standards Committee. He initiated and is currently serving as the leader of the ASHRAE/AIA/IES/USGBC/USDOE sponsoredÂ Advanced Energy Design Guides, which provides guidance for additional energy savings beyond the energy code. Over 440,000 copies of the 30- and 50% energy saving books are in distribution. Don also led UKâ€™s entry in the 2009 US DOE Solar Decathlon where students designed, built and demonstrated a net-zero-energy house on the National Mall.
